Picturesquely situated on the shores of Loch Duich, Westwood Lodge enjoys breathtaking views across the loch towards the mountains beyond. Set against a magnificent back drop of the Five Sisters of Kintail, the detached house is beautifully presented and the feature windows enable guests to take full advantage of the unrivalled views from the house and its special architectural design gives rise to a wonderfully spacious and airy feel. To the rear, a large garden looks out onto natural, unspoilt woodland whilst the shoreline of the loch and wonderful views across Mam Ratagan provide a wonderful outlook to the front. During the springtime, daffodils and primroses cover the gardens and by the garden wall are two headstones dated 1911 and 1924 – the resting places of two husky dogs descended from the team of dogs which accompanied Scott of the Antarctic on his famous South Pole Expedition. The house is in a superb holiday location for walking with around 30 munros (mountains over 3000 feet) within easy reach as well as the Falls of Glomach – one of the highest waterfalls in Britain. Also nearby is a small jetty for mooring boats which is free for guests to use. As Loch Duich is tidal, there are plenty of opportunities to fish its waters free of charge. During the season, salmon, sea trout, mackerel and ling have been caught. For a small fee, permits can be purchased for the Rivers Croe and Shiel with fly fishing for brown trout in the hill lochs providing a good sport. Glenelg with its Iron Age Brochs, the Isle of Skye, Applecross, Loch Ness and the famous Eilean Donan Castle all make for good days out. A little further afield, the Fort William to Mallaig train journey is one of the most scenic in Scotland and Inverewe Gardens some of the best known. A warm Highland welcome awaits visitors to the pub (50 yards) where some of the local seafood can be sampled. Two steps to entrance (ramp at rear).
